Question: Are there certain companies that have a good reputation when it comes to car insurance claims? I would like to know I’m not in for a major fight with my insurance company after an accident.

Answer: We do not generally recommend one insurance company over the next here as we try to remain impartial. There are a few ways to tell how car insurance claims are likely to be received by your insurance company. These Include:

  • Ask the agent to outline the process, in writing, when you purchase the policy.
  • Call the company and ask a question. If they customer service is not what you expect before you buy the policy imagine what it will be like after you buy the policy.
  • Ask friends and colleagues about their experiences. If a person has had a positive experience with their insurance company after an accident that is obviously a good sign.
  • Find out the percentage of claims paid out by the company. They should be willing to share this information.
  • Look online for complaint boards. If you consistently see the same companies listed this could be a red flag.
  • Contact your Better Business Bureau and ask them about complaints.
  • Find out if your prospective insurer has a dispute resolution process and what is involved in filing a dispute. This should be a relatively easy process. If it sounds extremely complicated beware.

If you follow the tips outlined above you will have a greater chance of finding a company that is responsive to car insurance claims made by their customers.
