Question: I am in the middle of modifying my 1998 Honda Accord and it looks like I am going to wind up spending about nine-thousand dollars on it altogether. What companies specialize in modified car insurance?
Answer: There are a few that specialize in modified car insurance and they differ from state to state. Typically modifying a car in any substantive manner will result in increased insurance premiums, sometimes vastly increased.
Depending on what you plan on doing to the car you can expect your insurance to increase from a few bucks a month to thousands of dollars. Anything that is done to increase the power of the engine will usually result in a heavy increase in premiums.
Expensive rims, body work, or add ons will also increase the premiums. If you plan on doing anything that oculd affect the structural integrity of the car many insurance companies may not be willing to insure you under any circumstances.
There are a few things you can do to lower your premiums however:
Finding a company that specializes in modified car insurance should not be too difficult, but finding one that will insure you for a reasonable price may be the problem.
